How to Shutdown Remote Computers using shutdown -I windows command, it’s easy to restart and shutdown multiple windows computers using this command, this article explains the simple steps to use it.

When is there a need to shutdown a remote computer then there are several ways one can shutdown, however, this article explains an easy method to shutdown multiple remote computers using a single command, let’s get started.

Shutdown -I

windows 10 or later versions have great commands among them Shutdown -I is very useful command and it has got some important functions that we use on a daily basis, here are the functions of shutdown -I command.

Click on start menu open the run command and then type in shutdown -i or open command prompt and type shutdown -I  both ways one can open the Remote Shutdown dialog box, see the screenshot below for reference.

This shutdown -I command brings the below dialog box.

Now you can add the remote computer list by clicking the add button at the right top corner of the dialog box, see the below screenshot and do the same, once you added the remote servers or desktops machines click ok button and then choose options, Restart\Shutdown by clicking the dropdown box, choose shutdown option and you can also set the timer when the machines should shutdown, display a warning for 30 seconds or one minute before they got down completely, it’s a really good command to give heads up for already connected users or who are working on those computers, provide any comments and click one to restart remote machines.

This command shutdowns all the remote machines, make sure you have a purpose for bringing down the servers or desktop,  once they shutdown, if you want to bring them up back online one has to use the remote console, if it’s VMware one, has to use vcenter console or Dell physical box then Idrac or HP ILO consoles to bring them back online or power on them.  it’s a cool command of windows I use this on my daily route task to restart remote computers, thank you for reading this article, please give me your feedback by your comments, thank you.
