What causes Zoom to lag and how to fix it

The year 2020 has been quite hard on everyone, but on a positive side, it has made most of the working professionals willingly or unwillingly a techie person. If the situation had occurred five years earlier too, we wouldn’t be ready for remote work. With the advancements in technology, new problems arise- Virtual Meetings can pose problems for many of us with our Zoom lagging. Today’s article will be on the causes of zoom to lag (zoom lag issue) and how you can fix it.

What causes Zoom to lag

Why does your Zoom Meetings Lag?

There are various reasons for your zoom meetings to lag. We have stated the most common ones here:

Problems with Internet Connectivity

The next time you experience lag, be sure to check your internet speed. There are various internet speed testing available online. Some of the most famous ones are:

  • Speedtest
  • Fast.com

You may notice below regular download or upload speeds, which can be one of the primary reasons for the lag you face while on a conference call. If the issue is this, then you have already saved a lot of trouble for yourself. You can contact your ISP and inform them about the same or troubleshoot the issue yourself.

However, if you still face the issue, then the other reason could be:

Insufficient Hardware and Software Issue

The most common reasons to occur from the client end are either because of the internet connectivity or, in extreme cases, issues with the hardware and software. We always recommend using antivirus if your system might be infected with a virus, which drastically lowers your internet speed. So make sure you have your Windows Defender enabled and an antivirus installed.

The other reason here could be due to the other system apps installed on your PC using most of your internet bandwidth. So, it is better to check which software is running in the background and consuming resources, as this leads to high CPU usage and presents you with lower memory to run Zoom. Even if you have quite a sound system, it doesn’t hurt to optimize it.

It is always best for interim results to restart your router and check all the software running in the background and close the unnecessary ones from the task manager. So you are ready for your virtual zoom meetings.

In case you have an old system, it is the right time to upgrade it as some companies have made their employees switch to remote work permanently, so this could be the best time to upgrade your system for a smooth workflow.

Final Words

Zoom has become a necessity app now. You need it whether you like it or not. It also creates a wrong impression on your boss and manager when your voice is breaking or zoom is lagging and frustrates you. So we have provided the best ways to fix the issues and the reasons that cause them.
