Method 1:

Rename the Discord update file

Step 1: Open the Run window by pressing Window+R keys together.

Step 2: Type “%localappdata%” in the Run window and press Enter to open the Local App Data folder.

Step 3: Locate and click on the Discord folder.

Step 4: Find the Update.exe file and rename it into Updatex.exe.

Step 5: Check if the update is running now.

Replace the Discord folder

Turning off Real-time virus and threat protection will make your system vulnerable to external malware attacks so make sure to turn on this safety feature after you complete the Discord update.

Method 6: Reinstall the Discord software

The final method we can implement to fix the Discord update failed error is to uninstall the Discord app and install it again. Many users have claimed to be successful in updating the Discord app after reinstalling it. Here are the steps you need to follow to reinstall the Discord app.

Simply uninstalling the Discord application will not remove all the files associated with the software. Follow the below steps to remove all traces of the Discord app from your system before installing it again.

Step 1: Before uninstalling the Discord app, we need to end the Discord app process from the Task Manager. Open the Task Manager easily by pressing Ctrl+Shift+Esc keys together.

Step 2: From the processes list find Discord and click on End Task to completely stop the process from running in the background.

Step 3: Open Windows Settings from the Start Menu.

Step 4: Open the Apps menu from settings.

Step 5: Locate the Discord app from the list and select it. Click on the Uninstall option. Click Ok in the pop-up window to complete the uninstallation.

Step 6: Delete Discord app files from the Windows database.

You need to delete the Discord folder from the App data and local app data folders to completely remove the files.

Open the app data folder by typing “%appdata%” in the Run window.

Right-click on the Discord folder and select delete.

Similarly type “%localappdata%” in the Run window to open the local app data folder and then delete the Discord folder.

Step 7: Reboot your system and install the Discord App again.
